Coop

I love my animals! It's so much fun to watch and care for them.
I'm in the process of converting the big coop for the serama - heres what it looked like
Hermanos and his ladies - this picture was taken before the younger cockerel and pullet moved in with them, and the hen on the far left is no longer in my flock
From left to right - Enchilada (no longer in the flock), Fillet - Barred Rock, Hermanos the Easter Egger (the rooster), Feliz - Easter Egger, Loco - Black Jersey Giant, Churches - Buff Brahma, Kentucky - Blue Laced Red Wyandotte

Sonny the barnyard mix white pullet and Dust Bunny the EE cockerel

The coop is always a work in progress. Because we live at MIL's, nothing is permanent. Their coop is made from two 6'x12' chain link panels (one for the front wall and one resting on top as a roof), 22 milk crates that make up one end and the nest boxes, and a couple tarps strung up to protect from rain and sun. It's backed up into a corner and we used the existing fences for the other 2 walls. The playhouse is where they sleep in the winter - I can close it up and protect them from the cold wind - but the rest of the year they roost on top and use it for extra shade.

We've also got a smaller coop for the younger chickens who aren't ready to be part of the big chicken coop.

Also still a work in progress. The plug is a cookie tin heater we put in there for the winter. Click HERE to learn how to make one.

In this one we have 4 young BLRWs, a young silkie, and little gray barnyard mix chick.

I LOVE the coloring on this one - as a chick I was sure he/she was going to be the "black" version, but every day he/she turn more blue! The neck feathers also managed to avoid the "orange" color that I'm not a big fan of =D

See the little gray chick?
 Such a cutie!
This is the same color Dust Bunny was until JUST before he started looking like a rooster. Can't wait to see how this little one turns out!

My Serama -
I currently have 3 serama. My rooster, Toy, is a great little guy. Very friendly. Great in his diaper =) His girlfriend, Berry, is currently sitting on some tiny little serama eggs. Now if you aren't familiar with Serama, they are the smallest chickens in the world. They are originally from Malaysia, where many people keep them as house pets, and the best show quality birds can sell for thousands of dollars. The serama here in the states are considered "American Serama" because of their slightly more relaxed pose. Personally I like the american line better than the Malaysian, ours just look like cute little soldier chickens! Mine are considered "pet quality", and boy do they make adorable little house pets!

The baby serama, Chocolate Chip, and his friend the baby Blue Japanese Bantam live in a rabbit cage above Toy and Berry.

This is Toy, my serama rooster. He's a great little guy!

And here we have Berry (she is a VERY dark blue) and Elena modeling some chicken diapers

My Bunnies -
I also have 2 bunnies. They are adorable. I bought them hoping to get a girl and a boy so I could breed them for rabbit meat. They ended up both being boys, so for now they are just our fuzzy little friends in their big ole rabbit hutch - complete with misting system for that summer heat. Lucky fuzz butts!

My boys as itty bitty baby buns!

Their rabbit mansion before being moved outside (this was the first day I built it - it was usually filled with toys and boxes for them to chew on and play in)

Trina is a Toulouse. She is 14 weeks old and lives in the house like a dog. She wears a goose diaper to help with the mess. I think she's absolutely adorable and we love her to death!

Now we have added a gander (male goose) to our flock in hopes of setting him up with Trina! He is a 3 yr old Saddleback pomeranian named Pom Pom
